Cult of Domesticity Essay

Women faced many restrictions during the 1800’s based solely on their gender. The Cult of Domesticity served as a basic guide that explained the appropriate ways women of this time period were expected to act. It essentially laid out four proper characteristics women had to portray: piety, purity, domesticity, and submissiveness. Many authors captured the difficulties in a woman’s life with having to deal with such strict expectations in their writing. These included Emily Dickinson with her poems â€Å"I felt a funeral in my brain†, â€Å"This is my letter to the World†, and â€Å"These are the days when the Birds come back†, Kate Chopin’s â€Å"The Story of an Hour†, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s â€Å"The Yellow Wallpaper†. These pieces of literature proved women’s struggle to live with the pressures of the Cult of Domesticity, and society itself. Emily Dickinson herself was a very odd, secluded woman and that expressed her thoughts through her poems. In â€Å"I felt a funeral in my brain†, Dickinson writes â€Å"And I and silence some strange race/ wrecked, solitary, here† (15-16). This is a prime example of the solidarity that held her captive and caused her descent into madness. Her poem is a cry out for help, but being the submissive woman she was supposed to be, she hid away her feelings while still acting weak and inferior. Another example of submissiveness can be taken from her poem â€Å"This is my letter to the World†. It starts off â€Å"This is my letter to the world/ That never wrote to Me† (Dickinson 1-2). She is again crying out against the unfairness that the â€Å"world† never wrote to her, or acknowledged her because of her sex. As a woman she was constantly in the shadow of a man and therefore did not matter. From â€Å"These are the days when the Birds come back†, Dickinson wrote â€Å"Thy consecrated bread to take/ and thine immortal wine! † (17-18). Her allusion to the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist enforces piety. Women needed to always act as the â€Å"handmaidens of God†, to repent for the sins of Eve in the Old Testament. Religion was a big enforcer of a woman’s quiet way of life and acted as something to occupy their time at home with. Emily Dickinson’s struggle with society’s expectations is greatly shown through her poetry. Dickinson’s many poems were great in number, but creates only one part of the perspective from a woman about the Cult of Domesticity. In Kate Chopin’s â€Å"Story of an Hour†, young Mrs. Brently Mallard discovers the news of her husband’s death. Once the shock and grief wear off, she comes to an important realization. â€Å"’Free! Body and soul free! ’†(Chopin 2). Louise finally is free, without her husband’s name bearing down on her and out of the clutches of domesticity. She no longer needs to act like the perfect wife at home, constantly taking care of the house and looking after her husband’s every need. She can live for herself like she always wanted. â€Å"There would be no powerful will bending hers† (Chopin 2), and she would no longer be the victim of submissiveness. Her husband no longer had the superior power, which all men were granted at the time of birth, to control and dictate her every move to the point where she was just like a small child that needed guidance and direction. But, in the end her joy is all for naught. Brently is not dead. And Mrs. Mallard, when receiving the news of his return, â€Å"die[s] of heart disease† (Chopin 2). The thought of being pushed into that submissive state of being that she had just escaped from ultimately caused her premature death. Chopin’s character Louise was a lot like the narrator of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s â€Å"The Yellow Wallpaper† in regards to their relationship with overpowering husbands. â€Å"John laughs at me of course, but one expects that in a marriage† (Gilman 1). The narrator acts with submissiveness as she accepts that she is inferior to her husband, he is always right, and she is just the silly woman. She feels she must take his lead and constantly follow because that is how society wants her to feel. Her opinion does not matter at all, and she even states outright â€Å"I don’t like our room a bit† (Gilman 2). She detests the room, with its ugly, yellow wallpaper and barred windows, but since her husband says it is the best place for her she just, once again, accepts it and does not say another word on the subject. The room she would like to sleep in was prettier and airier. But John said that â€Å"there was only one window and not room for two beds† (Gilman 2). This not only reinforces her submissiveness, but also her purity as a woman. The narrator, though married and a mother, sleeps in a different bed from her husband. This is not to keep her â€Å"gift† safe anymore, but to keep from tempting him and to guarantee the rest she needs to recover from her anxiety. Emily Dickinson, Kate Chopin, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman were all talented writers and advocates in their own ways for the struggles of women with the Cult of Domesticity in the 1800’s. Each accomplished a way to present a light into the minds of the women who were being suffocated by the men’s superiority. Emily Dickinson created poems full of solemn and even remorseful moods that mirrored depression and repression that women felt because of society’s expectations. Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman created characters that not only used the same suffocating repression, but empowered their women by taking the men out of the equation. Only then were their characters given a chance; Louise without Brently and a small taste of freedom, and the narrator’s ability to finally â€Å"creep† along the room in peace when John faints. The Cult of Domesticity was a cause for women’s repression but also their strength and growing stand to the unfairness of the treatment they were being dealt for so long.

Metropolis Movie Analysis

German, silent, science fiction film that was released in 1927 during what was considered to be the end of the Whimper Cinema era. Metropolis is considered to be an expressionist film due to its use of symbols found in the scenery, over exaggerated acting style, and heavy makeup. The scenery in the film was delivered in a black and white, dreamlike, theatrical tone. A lot of the objects found in the scenery were found as a symbolic connotation to the subtle meanings expressed throughout. As discussed in class, we had noticed a definite religious over tone with the imagery seen throughout including scenes displayed in the Garden of Eden, Catacombs, Babel and cross imagery. The main character of the film is a young man named Freer who is the son of the all mighty and powerful Josh Preferred. Josh is seen as a self-righteous and inconsiderate man who is the head of the town Metropolis and is in charge of all the workers whose hands power this town.Josh however is not a fair boss and work s his men to unbearable extremes. As discussed in class, you are able to notice one the many expressionist attributes in this film being how the workers In the film move aerobically as if they are a machine and have been euthanized by their occupation. These workers are not seen by Josh as humans but are rather seen as the light switch flipping on and off the machines, powering his business. Freer is the median trying to bring both of these two clashing worlds together. He tries to help the workers value themselves as human beings as well as help to show his father that these workers aren't his slaves. The expressive and overall basis of the movie Lies within the repetitively used saying throughout the film, â€Å"The median between the hands and the head Is the heart. † The overall meaning of the film Is expressed through the scenery and acting In film. As It Is a silent expressionist film, the acting Is reliant on conveying this meaning by the over exaggerated movements and emotions displayed.

An Example Of Transition Economy Economics Essay

An Example Of Transition Economy Economics Essay Around 1.21 billion people currently living in India, which is about 17.4% of the global population or one, can say 2.4 per cent of world GDP in US dollar terms and 5.5 % in PPP terms. The universal wellbeing too is linked to progress in India as reflected in the eager global interest in India. But, India seems to instigate and disappoint at the same time. Human Resource Management suggestions for Losalot Ltd Essay

Human Resource Management suggestions for Losalot Ltd - Essay Example HRM is all about this. Employees are taught to be positive, deliver quality work, have a sense of humor, and work as a team. Employees should be interested in performing as a team and take joy in team results, rather than aim at individual accomplishments. HRM identifies people with qualities associated with conformity, positive attitude, and partnership. Building a team with members with such exemplary qualities mitigates the work of an organization and together, they can build a work force that performs exemplarily in all the organization desires (Corporate Culture, Auxillium West -The HR Manager). Strong HRM practices are characterized by an equally strong internal labor market, consultative decision making and enterprise unionism. Strong employee-management relationship, leading to employee identification with the firm and a high commitment to innovative production practices that enhance the firm's performance is of prime importance in the context of company progress and development. This could change with employees creating trouble through non-cooperation or their laidback attitude towards their work and superior supervisors. In such situations, it is the company that suffers from low production and strikes. Unless the company HR personnel are well versed with legislations, the company will ultimately have to pay heavy compensation to these employees. A good HR is aware of his/her rights and legislations that offer solace to companies against such employee demonstrations. 1.0 Introduction Losalot Ltd is such a company that doesn't employ an HR specialist. All its recruitment and selection are carried out by the company line managers, who without any proper training in HR law, find themselves making mistakes and forced to pay out large sums of money as compensation to job applicants and current employees. Losalot Ltd is left with no choice but to adhere to the demands of the problem-making employees. In order to avoid further annoyance, the company seeks a remedy to bail them out of this perennial problem. HR should be well versed with legislations relating to recruitment, selection, equalizing, employment opportunities and the formation of employments contracts. 2.0 Legislations The Human Rights Act 1998 came into being in October 2000. 18 Articles consisting of rights and freedom came under this statutory. Of these Articles 6/8/9/10/11/and 14 have far reaching implications for HR. One Article addresses the religious sentiments of minority groups at workplace: The reputation of the industry for giving low priority to personnel matters is reflected in an almost universal disregard of the code of racial equality. Discrimination in recruitment, training, motivation, and promotion can have a bearing on life chances. This can also be referred to in 'Religion and Belief, Dec 2003. Can employers monitor their employee's e-mails This can be termed as a violation into the privacy of an individual and can be referred to discrimination of human rights. Are personal relationships at work grounds for dismissal This depends upon the nature of relationship and the context in which, if it does, affects performance. Personal relationships are fine as long as they don't come between duty and quality. However, it is advisable to have personal relationships outside working hours and work premises. Can an employer insist on a dress code or uniform

The impact of time management on effectiveness of projects Dissertation

The impact of time management on effectiveness of projects - Dissertation Example Industrial revolution gave rise to the concept of time management; industrial revolution also gave rise to scrutiny of projects and the concept of project management. Managing time has been considered an essential skill for success in life. Projects have been found to be failures as they could not deliver the intended value. Completing a project on or ahead of schedule is not an effective measure of project success. The effectiveness of project differs from efficiency, the latter being dependent on maintaining time, cost and quality or remaining within the confines of the Iron Triangle. However, projects are not supposed to be effective if they do not achieve the intended objectives even if they have been completed on time. Projects are complex and have risks inherent which necessitate that buffer time is always built in the planning stage. With the aim to evaluate the impact of time management on the effectiveness of projects, four objectives were set in Chapter I. All the four obje ctives have been achieved based on a quality study through secondary data. The study, based on an analysis of past projects, finds that time has not been effectively used in project planning and implementation. Time schedules have been maintained and personal or political interests have taken precedence over project goals. Under pressure people are unable to deliver and give their best. Just completing a project within the defined time does not ensure effectiveness of a project. Effectiveness differs from efficiency where efficiency pertains to adhering to costs and time. Effectiveness pertains to doing the thing right even if it means time overruns. The outcome must add value and be of benefit to the stakeholders. Effective communication and information sharing also contribute to the effectiveness of projects. The parameters of project success may differ across projects and business environment but overall it should meet the intended objectives and not be constrained by resources such as time. Uncertainties and risks are inherent in projects, and these nee d to be built in the project duration. Time allowance or buffering of time is essential which would help meet unexpected events in the implementation of projects. While some discipline is essential to maintain schedules because activities may be interdependent, focusing on the clock in doing the right thing can be counter-productive. Crashing an activity to save on time can lead to compromising on quality or on project goals. The role of the leader is critical to the success of projects. It is important to have skilled and experienced leaders for projects who have the responsibility to keep the team motivated, to plan with realistic schedules and thereby deliver the project successfully. The study finds that time management has an impact on the effectiveness of projects. Maintaining time is important without which chaos and discipline would prevail. However, time has to be managed and planned. Effectiveness of projects is to achieve the project goals. A project may be late and overs pent but it should have delivered intended value. The study concluded by highlighting the limitations and making recommendations based on the limitations. Change Management in Schools Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Change Management in Schools - Essay Example But here this paper instead of filling its contents with intentional verbosity, our approach is quite goal-oriented. In addition, many of these research areas are further convoluted with links and interactions to other, nor-related research that need to be considered. Finally, the lack of accurate measurability severely hampers the statistical assessment of suitability of a stated hypothesis. But this paper is rather unconventional and attempts to dig out the actual problems and stumbling blocks that hamper the process of change management in our institutions. While above-mentioned factor pertaining to the lack of accurate measurability is true for the entire field of education, it is particularly acute in researches directly related on such topics. For this reason, published articles have the search for an explanation of actions and phenomena in common as a general rule all, albeit from different points of views. But this paper is, as mentioned above is rather goal-oriented fraught with realistic recommendations and suggestions. Despite the fact that the field of this issue has attracted some of the best researchers within the educational realm, the lack of unity in opinion as well as a structured overview is outmost apparent. This paper attempts to overcome this lack by providing a comprehensive overview and analysis of current recruiting and retaining concepts. Nonetheless, an attempt is made with this paper to lessen the validation pressure from lack of data by providing the results of a small but comprehensive literature review thorough a number of books, journals and web-based sources. Thus, coming out from the ambit of educational concerns, this issue has become an inevitable topic to think upon in general. To date, there have been various researches conducted on this topic; similarly this paper is a humble attempt from my side not only to have a discussion on it in general but also to explore some unexplored avenues related with this issue that may furt her help us reaching at rather down-to-earth conclusion. There is no doubt that in Britain, in the last ten years, we have seen massive strides forward in the education system. The establishment of a national curriculum and other reforms have provided the basic framework for improvement in educational provision, but at a considerable cost to teachers. Since the Education Reform Act (1988), we have seen a continuous stream of systemic, top-down change which has had a major impact on teachers' professionalism. Their roles in strategic planning and decision making have been dominated by the requirement to implement externally driven initiatives, and workloads have expanded leading to high levels of stress, low levels of morale and difficulties with recruitment and retention. This study is offering a strategy to help school management reconstruct their professionalism by providing a framework within which they can play a full and active part in school improvement and school development. The research carried out and the consequent conclusion thereof offered here has the potential to bring about lasting change and has raised standards through the enhancement of teachers'

Gender Issues and Cultural Constructs in Sex and the City Essay

Gender Issues and Cultural Constructs in Sex and the City - Essay Example Just like women are defined by patriarchal culture, men are also defined by culture, and this culture is also patriarchal. Because of this, there is inevitably a dichotomy between the terms â€Å"female,† which is biological, and â€Å"woman,† which is cultural. Similarly, there is a difference between â€Å"male,† which is biological, and â€Å"man,† which is cultural (Bartky, 2003). Both of the movies Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2 demonstrate how this is true. That said, each of the movies actually turn the traditional cultural definitions of men and women on their head, for the most part, in that the women in these movies are independent and assume the masculine role in different ways. Meanwhile, the men, who definitely take a backseat in these movies, much as they do in the television series, often take the traditional female role in many ways. This is not to say that the portrayals of the men and women are not culturally driven, as women in modern culture often do take on masculine qualities and men take on feminine qualities. Nonetheless, in the Sex and the City world, with the one notable exception, turns traditional culture, as opposed to modern culture, on its head. Analysis of the movies The best way to explain how these movies turn traditional culture on their head would be easiest if one examines the different couples who are in these shows. Carrie Bradshaw is the focus of both of these movies, as she is in the actual television series upon which these movies are based. Bradshaw is a blend of masculine and feminine qualities, although the masculine qualities in Bradshaw outweigh the feminine qualities, as dictated by culture. Carrie is a writer, and is successful, having published several books. This would be a typical masculine characteristic – Carrie is a breadwinner, and she has zero interest in anything domesticated. She doesn't cook, she is never seen cleaning, and she has no interest in having child ren. On the other hand, Carrie's boyfriend, turned husband, Mr. Big, takes on some of the more traditionally feminine characteristics, at least in the second film. Mr. Big does cook, as he is seen cooking in the first film, and makes an anniversary dinner for himself and Carrie in the second film. Mr. Big also likes old-fashioned movies, especially It Happened One Night, which is a classic romantic comedy. In the first film, Mr. Big takes on more traditional masculinity however, than in the second film. This is because Mr. Big is seen as Carrie's caretaker, more than in the first movie. He literally buys her a super-expensive penthouse apartment, and constructs her dream closet. He is also responsible, in the first film, for the dramatic tension in the film, as he stands Carrie up at the altar (they later marry). This feeds into the stereotypical male who is afraid of commitment. He dictates how the two will be married – he wants a low-key ceremony, she wants an over-the-top ceremony, and the two end up getting married according to what he wants. Therefore, Mr. Big is a protector of Carrie, is a provider for Carrie, and dominates Carrie with his wishes in the first film. He more of a traditional male in this way. By the second film, however, Mr. Big is neutered and takes on more of a feminine image. This is the film where he forces Carrie to watch the female-centric film, It Happened One Night, and Mr. Big is shown as somebody who is more of a homebody.

Political Paper from 1930-1939 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Political Paper from 1930-1939 - Essay Example There were two federal elections held in the 1930’s and there was a change in government in each election. (Linteau 93). The 1930 election between Prime Minister Mackenzie King’s liberal government and R.B. Bennett, the new conservative leader (Linteau 90) was the precursor to change that was rapidly approaching Quebec. There were very different platforms from each candidate; Bennett based his campaign on finding ways to fight the depression. Bennett promised to bring relief to the unemployed and increase exports (Linteau 1991) leading Bennett’s Conservative victory. King’s Liberal party showed no preparation or awareness of how serious the upcoming election was, appearing â€Å"ill prepared to deal with more increasingly difficult circumstances† (Linteau 1991). The victory was short lived however, as the immense scope of the economic problems of the Depression were more than his government seems equipped to handle. His failure to bring about the solutions he had promised made him an unpopular scapegoat. In 1932 he formed the Relief Act which was meant to help people who we re unemployed by providing grants for municipal works projects. During the 1930’s there were a number of new parties formed. The older more established parties, such as the Liberals who had been in power since 1897 appeared to be old and stagnant. 1932 brought the formation of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) a democratic socialist party. It gained supporters nationwide, but Quebec did not seem to favor the party (Linteau 1991). Another party that fared better in Quebec was the ALN, or Action Liberale Nationale. It grew out of the younger activists of the liberal party. Their program was supported by pressure groups and youth movements toward the social doctrine of the church (Linteau 1991). They were encouraged and inspired by the ideas of the Programme de Restauration Sociale

Dq -5-Terence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Dq -5-Terence - Essay Example The discussion below elaborates and helps in understanding various aspects of research. Research questions that address a problem are concerned with quantitative research. In this case, the questions give an exact description of a phenomenon. Since it has to answer a question, control is exercised in order to eliminate any form of bias that may arise during the research. In most cases, the information under this kind of research relies on cross-functional approaches and the data reduced to numerical codes for easy analysis. On the contrary, questions that might be used in an interview heavily rely on qualitative research. This indicates that the information under such a research does not require discrete numerical data but only seeks for explanations about a phenomenon. However, since researchers determine what is asked, there is a likelihood of biasness because they decide how to fit the questions in a situation. These questions employ verbal, and in other cases, use pictorial descriptions for effective understanding and analysis. According to Palinkas et al. (2013), both qualitative and quantitative research methods have a trace of bias. It is extremely difficult to eliminate bias in research. Using the methods concurrently helps researchers to cub bias since both methods can be used in checking each other. They actually complement each other. By In terms of data preparation, both methods, in a unique way require the use of verbal descriptions. They are a great pillar in understanding in research. Researchers are increasingly finding it difficult using the methods independently because they are intertwined together and just separated by a thin line. An effective combination provides quality research findings that address the problem and offer solutions in a logical and acceptable manner. Questions that address a problem are objective in nature because they have

Struggle and Survival in Colonial America Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Struggle and Survival in Colonial America - Essay Example The harsh natural environment in which the native American Indians had lived upon at that time required them to band together for their ultimate survival. This communal basis of society in the native Americans had remained, while the settlers disintegrated. Their concept of a community hinged on common ownership of their lands and common membership in the sacred natural order (Sweet & Nash 18). On the other hand, the European concepts of private property (or termed as a private enterprise) and the individual exploitation of nature for one's own profits, did not allow for the collective modes of behavior observed in native American Indians. The settlers forced the natives to adapt to this lifestyle and forgo community living. The arrival of the first white settlers at the tidewaters of Virginia had divided a tribe of Indians termed collectively as Powhatans. The tribe at Virginia at that time were known as the Algonquian Indians the most famous of which is Pocahontas who had been immortalized in history and literature. Her tribe welcomed the new arrivals, as exemplified by her father but this generosity ushered the decline of their tribe, eventually. It weakened the formerly strong and politically stable Indian settlements of the Powhatan tribes such that they were displaced and marginalized to the point of near extinction (Fausz 21). Some natives tried to resist the Europeans but were soon defeated by the superiority of the white settlers weaponry. The Algonquians were not unanimous in their acceptance into their midst the new settlers like what Opechancanough did.

Decision Making Essay Example for Free

Decision Making Essay When you are making a decision there are six steps you want to follow they are; identifying and diagnosing the problem, generating alternative solutions, evaluating alternatives, making the choice, implementing the decision, and evaluating the decision. There are times in our lives when we have to make important decisions such as changing jobs, moving to a new state, buying a new house or going to school. For me this decision came a little over a year ago when I decided to go back to school and further my education. The first step of my decision making process was to identify the problem. I have been working at the same job for six years with no chance of advancement. I just had my first child and when my leave was up, I didn’t want to go back to the same job that I hated. Next, I had to look at all of my options. Yes, I could have gone out and got another job, but really how far can you go with just a high school diploma. I wanted to be able to go out and make a difference and do something that I love doing. Last, with my husband’s support I made the choice to go back to school. And I have to say it has been the best decision I have ever made. I will be done with my associate’s degree in August then I am starting my bachelor’s degree. This will not only help me but my family too. Even though my situation is somewhat different from the one in the text, we both made the decision to better ourselves. She had to cut cost and repay the company’s debt. This made Xerox survive and is now a thriving business.

Beauty Definition Essay Example for Free

Beauty Definition Essay Beauty is one of the most prevalent themes in the world. But what is beauty exactly? According to the Oxford Dictionary beauty is A combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Based on the definition, one would assume that beauty is only on outward appearance but that statement is false. Beauty is not only appearance but it is also what people cannot see. Beauty is about being beautiful on the inside not just the outside. The media has fooled so many people into thinking the opposite. Beauty is not only outward appearance. People are not beautiful because they have the most expensive clothes or the shiniest hair. Beauty is not having the clearest skin; beauty is not about being thin; beauty is not having the fullest eyelashes; beauty is not about appearance at all. Many people look at allure as something they can obtain from putting a lot of time into their appearance. I remember in high school there was a girl named Jenna; Jenna had all the coolest clothes and always made sure she looked good. I remember envying her for her shinny hair and perfect teeth. Everyone seemed convinced that this girl was beautiful even I. Until one day I was walking past a classroom, I could hear faint voices coming out and I knew that there wasnt supposed to be anyone in the class. I creeped closer listening to the whispers when I immediately recognized a familiar voice. It was Jenna’s and she was saying horrible things about her â€Å"best friend†. At that moment I realized that Jenna wasnt so beautiful after all. All the clothes and makeup could not hide the fact that she had an ugly soul. The soul is what makes people beautiful. Being alluring is far deeper than just being attractive; it is about being a good person. You cannot see beauty but you can see what makes people beautiful. The person who stops when they see a stray animal sitting in the sidewalk is beautiful. The person who gives their last dollar to the homeless man is beautiful. The person who goes out of their way to be friendly to everyone they meet is beautiful. The person who puts the greater good for humanity before the greater good for themselves is beautiful. Audrey Hepburn an actress in the 50’s was one of the very first actresses to recognize that beauty isnt always just appearance. She states that â€Å"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wea rs, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway  to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.† Todays media has done a terrific job in portraying allure as something that one can obtain from appearance. Media has convinced the world that beauty is only outward appearance. Today you cannot go five minutes without seeing a beauty ad; theyre everywhere. Turn on the television and you’ll see an ad for shampoo that shows a smiling girl claiming that her hair is now shinier. Drive down the street and you’ll see a billboard for an acne medication that claims it gives you ‘beautiful’ looking skin. These companies are preying on girls insecurities to make money. They claim that if you buy their product, you too can look beautiful. In reality no product can make a person beautiful because beauty is not something that you can see. Many girls look up to stars like Katy Perry, Hayden Panettiere and Emma Stone; all of who are advertising beauty products. When girls watch their favorite stars advertise makeup and other beauty products it gives the girls a false sense of beauty. It teaches our youth that by using a certain product then they can achieve beauty; if they wear a certain makeup then they will be â€Å"beautiful† like their favorite celebrities. Today’s media has put enormous pressure on young girls to be thin. Every commercial and billboard and magazine ad portrays a size zero model, always photoshopped. Young people look at these women and think that in order to be beautiful that they too have to be that thin leading to unhealthy decisions and life threatening illnesses. According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, 24 million people in the United States alone suffer form some sort of eating disorder. 24 million people think that their body is not good enough to fit societies definition of beautiful. 24 million people think that the only way to be beautiful is by harming their bodies. This number can be lowered dramatically if media stopped putting the emphasis of beauty on physical appearance. Beauty is not outward appearance but inner appearance. Beauty is having a beautiful soul and being a good person all around. Media has given society a false view on what really is beautiful. The next time you find yourself judging someone based upon their looks think again; beauty is not just what you can see, its what you cannot.

Parkinsons Disease | Case Study Essay

Parkinsons Disease | Case Study Essay This case is about a headmaster, Mr Boddy, who was experiencing a variety of problems that increased in severity and had an ever-increasing impact on his life. The symptoms were becoming increasingly obvious to both Mr Boddy and his children which lead to him going to see his GP who referred him to a specialist. The specialist started him on a course of drug but decided to change it within less than a year. From the symptoms described in the case, it is obvious that Mr Boddy has Parkinsons Disease. The issues presented in this case were discussed and learning objectives were produced which will be explored in this essay. Anatomy and function of the basal ganglia The basal ganglia are a group of deep nuclei that are located at the base of the forebrain and are linked to the thalamus. The deep nuclei that make up the basal ganglia are the caudate nucleus, the putamen, the globus pallidus, the substantia nigra and the subthalamic nucleus. (Michael-Titus, et al., 2010)The main function of the basal ganglia is to start and maintain motor actions and they play a vital role in the decision-making processes in the brain by processing cognitive and emotional information from the environment. They also communicate with the supplementary motor cortex to organise the correct excitation of the primary motor cortex as well as scaling the strength of the response. Another function is that they adjust movement on a minute by minute basis by communicating with the cerebellum. (Buot Yelnik, 2012) The nuclei of the basal ganglia can be classified as either input nuclei or output nuclei. The input nuclei are made up of the caudate and the putamen and as they are functionally similar they are known together as the striatum. They can be seen in Figure 1 where they are coloured purple. Most of its input comes from the cerebral cortex, however it also receives some input from the other basal ganglia nuclei. (Rolls, 1994) The output nuclei are the globus pallidus, substantia nigra and subthalamic nuclei. They can also be seen in Figure 1 and are in very close proximity to the striatum. The substantia nigra is split into two parts, the pars compacta(SNpc) and the pars reticulata (SNpr). The SNpc are the cells that produce dopamine and are damaged in parkinsons which is what happened to Mr Boddy. The SNpr receives input from the striatum and sends it to the ventral anterior, ventral lateral, and mediodorsal thalamic nuclei to control head and eye movements as well as carry out other f unctions. The globus pallidus is split into the internal (GPi) and external (GPe). The function of internal part of the nucleus is to send outputs to the thalamus. However, the function of the external portion of the nucleus is not fully understood but it appears to regulate and focus activity in the rest of the basal ganglia. (Hanna, et al., 2011) Damage to the basal ganglia is what caused Mr Boddys Parkinsons disease. Neurological pathway of dopamine and neurotransmitters involved in basal ganglia pathway One of the main effects of Parkinsons is on movement and this is true with Mr Boddy as he developed a lot of movement problems. Thus, there must be a problem with the basal ganglias modulation of movement. The normal modulation of movement can be explained in terms of a brake theory. In essence, to start one movement the brakes must be applied to other movements. So damage to the basal ganglia will result in an inability to stop current movements as well as difficulty initiating movement. (Rhoades Bell, 2009) The initiation of a motor programme and the maintenance of a motor programme are respectively controlled by the dopaminergic direct and indirect pathways. Whether a motor programme is going to start or be maintained is determined by the interaction of the two pathways. So damage to the substantia nigra pars reticulata which produces dopamine has adverse effects on these two pathways and alters their function thus altering their combined effect which manifests as the symptoms of Parkinsons. The direct pathway is excitatory and the indirect pathway is inhibitory. (Lenglet, et al., 2012) The direct pathway is activated via excitatory glutamatergic neurones from the cortex. This combined with the dopamine being released from the substantia nigra pars compacta causes inhibition, via GABAergic neurones, of the internal globus pallidus which then causes the net reduction of the inhibition, via GABAergic neurones, of the thalamus. This ultimately results in the increased excitation of the cortex via glutamatergic neurones which then causes increased excitatory output from the cortex to the muscle fibres via the lateral corticospinal tract. The excitatory direct pathway can be seen in Figure 2. The indirect pathway is very similar to the direct pathway. Once stimulated by the cortex, the neurones from the striatum project onto the external globus pallidus nuclei which causes inhibition. This inhibition results in the net reduction in the inhibition of the subthalamic nucleus. This results in the subthalamic nucleus projection of excitatory, glutamatergic, inputs into the i nternal globus pallidus which causes inhibition of the thalamus and this decreases stimulation of the motor cortex. Which then results in reduced muscle activity. As with the direct pathway, the indirect pathway is illustrated in Figure 2. The reason why dopamine released from the substantia nigra can have both excitatory and inhibitory affects is because of the dopamine receptors. The dopamine receptors D1 and D5 are found in the internal globus pallidus and are excitatory. The dopamine receptors D2-D4 are found in the external globus pallidus and are inhibitory. (Lenglet, et al., 2012) In Parkinsons disease substantia nigra pars compacta have degenerated and thus are producing less dopamine. This affects the D1-D5 receptors which results in less stimulation of the direct pathway and release of the inhibition of the indirect pathway. This means that the indirect pathway becomes the dominant one which inhibits the thalamus and thus will reduce motor activity in the motor cortex. This results in the characteristic symptoms of parkinsons. A diagram of the changes can be seen in Figure 3.These changes are what caused the problems that Mr Boddy was experiencing and the increasing severity of his symptoms was most likely caused by the continuing degeneration of his substantia nigra pars compacta cells. (Wu, et al., 2012) Symptoms of Parkinsons The symptoms that Mr Boddy experienced are mainly caused by the lack of dopamine resulting in the dominance of the indirect pathway. The first symptom that he developed was sleeping problems and this was most probably caused because the body has trouble initiating a sleep cycle. So once he wakes up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet for example, then he will not be able to go back to sleep because of the under activity of the direct pathway. The loss of the sense of humour and the tremors are also caused by Mr Boddy becoming stuck in a motor programme. The pill-rolling tremor is characteristic of Parkinsons. The clumsiness and falling over occur because the basal ganglia damage means that it cannot communicate normally with the cerebellum. There are also a number of other symptoms that present in patients with parkinsons disease. Even though everyone presents with Parkinsons differently, there are a number of symptoms that are present in everyone. They are listed in Table 1. Diagnosis of Parkinsons Diagnosis of Parkinsons is made from a medical history and neurological examinations alone. This is because the only test for Parkinsons at the present time can only be performed during a post mortem. After the neurological tests and the history have been taken the NICE guidelines (Table 2) have to be applied to the finding. In Mr Boddys case, he had two of the three criteria in Step 1 as well as four of the criteria that had to be met in Step 3 to make a definite diagnosis. Lewy bodies can be found during a post-mortem of a patient with Parkinsons. They appear as spherical masses which contain abnormal alpha synuclein protein deposits and are found on the brainstem. An example of a Lewy body can be seen in Figure 4. Treatment of Parkinsons There are a number of treatments for Parkinsons disease, each with their own side effects which means that their use must be strictly controlled and monitored. The most effective class of drug at elevating the symptoms of Parkinsons is L- dopa. L-dopa is the precursor for dopamine and it can cross the blood brain barrier where it is converted to dopamine by dopa decarboxylase to restore the dopamine levels in the brain to a normal level. Dopamine itself cannot be given as it cannot cross the blood brain barrier. However, if L-dopa is given on its own it will breakdown in the body and activate the vomiting centre in the brain and cause vomiting. So to counteract this problem, it is given with a dopa decarboxylase inhibitor which stops the conversion to dopamine in the body. As it cannot cross the blood brain barrier dopamine can still be produced in the brain. The main side effect is that after a long period of use side effects known as on-off phenomenon develop. Which is where there are periods of activity (on) followed by a state of being immobile (off). The patient can suddenly switch between these two states. Another side effect is dyski nesia. (Goetz, 2007) To avoid the end of dose side effects of L-dopa other drugs that are less effective are given first to prolong the time before L-dopa has to be given and the on-off effect starts happening. One type is a dopamine agonist. They work by binding to the post-synaptic receptors in the brain and have similar effects to L-dopa. However possible side effects include nausea, vomiting and fatigue. An example is bromocriptine or rotigotine. Another class of drug that is used is Monoamine oxidase inhibitors. They work by preventing the breakdown of dopamine. Their side effects include; headache, joint pain and depression. Catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT) inhibitor works by preventing the breakdown of L-Dopa and the adverse effects are nausea, vomiting, diahorrea and abdominal pain. An example of a COMT inhibitor is entacapone. Mr Boddy was given Rasagiline to start with which is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. And then he was switched to L-Dopa which had a marked effect. (Longmore, 2007) Deep brain stimulation is another option for the treatment of Parkinsons. It cannot cure Parkinsons but by firing high frequency impulses into the brain it can reduce the symptoms of Parkinsons as well as reducing the adverse effects of the drugs which improves the patients quality of life. It could be suggested to Mr Boddy that he tries this option when the on-off effects start happening. (Rodriguez-Oroz, et al., 2005) Prognosis of Parkinsons If Parkinsons isnt treated then patients will be bedridden after 10 years of onset of the disease. The symptoms will advance rapidly. In people taking drugs the time taken for the disease to reach a stage where they are bed ridden is well over 15 years. (Poewe, 2006) However, the course of the disease is different in every individual with the disease progression being faster in people who are older. (Obeso, et al., 2010) Disability is linked to motor symptoms at the start of the disease but as it advances they are linked to motor symptoms that dont respond to medicine. Life expectancy for people with PD is also reduced. (Poewe, 2006) The advice that can be given to Mr Boddy is that there is no way of knowing for certain how Parkinsons will affect his future. However, the best case scenario is that he can carry on as normal for another 7 to 10 years before his symptoms greatly affect his job and family life. Conclusion In conclusion, this was a very interesting subject to look into and it made me realise how complex the disease is and how much of an impact it has on a persons life. If I had more time I would like to look further into the genetic links behind Parkinsons as well as looking into new methods of diagnosis that are being developed as I didnt have the time to do so.

Extraordinary Means Of Treatment Essay -- essays research papers

Extraordinary means of treatment   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  For many years now there have been people who center their lives on giving medical attention to sick patients in need of their care. There have also been many doctors who spend their lives developing techniques to help keep people alive as long as possible, even when the person quite possibly should have died a natural death a long time ago. Does this make what the doctor is doing wrong? Doesn’t the patient deserve a chance to live the longest and fullest life they possibly can?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  These questions must be weighed on the benefits of the treatment versus the burden of the treatment. It may prolong life but will it make the life better or just lengthen the suffering that the patient has to go through. These and many other considerations must be taken in account in order to assure the best decision for the patient. Money can also be a factor in extraordinary treatment. Some people can’t afford to have their loved ones in a hospital for very long especially if they are in a coma or other severe illness, and might not be able to afford a long-term hospital bill. Also if there is a very slim chance of success with the procedure it may not be worth trying to save or preserve the life of the patient. Sometimes you may need to take the individual’s opinion on the treatments advice. If they are able to give a competent decision shouldn’t it be used to dete...

Truman’s Policy of Containment: As related to the Individual and Socie

Truman’s Policy of Containment: As related to the Individual and Society Containment in foreign policy is known as the strategy suggested by George Kennan to prevent Soviet expansionism by exerting counter pressure along Soviet borders. The Truman Doctrine was the name given to a speech President Truman delivered to a joint session of Congress on March 12, 1947, in which he proclaimed a new policy and role for the United States in global affairs. Specifically, the president sought $400 million in economic and military assistance for Greece and Turkey, two strategic Mediterranean countries threatened by subversive forces supported by the Soviet Union, after the British said a month earlier that they could no longer provide the needed support. To justify aid for Greece and Turkey to a skeptical Congress, Truman placed the situation in the context of broader changes that he saw taking place in global politics. Truman felt that the peoples of a number of countries had totalitarian regimes forced upon them against their will. At the time the United States had made frequent protests against coercion and intimidation, in violation of the Yalta agreement, in Poland, Rumania, and Bulgaria, but those protests proved insufficient. Truman declared that the United States must now be willing â€Å"to help free peoples to maintain their free institutions and their national integrity against aggressive movements that seek to impose upon them totalitarian regimes.† The sweeping language of the speech and the worldwide commitment to assist any state threatened by totalitarianism gained it the status of a â€Å"doctrine† and a lasting policy for the United States. The speech became a declaration of Cold War. The i ssue was begin... ...hat they wanted to unlike the way it under a communist regime. As related to the humanities based theme of the individual and society Truman and his policy of containment helped improve the way we look at life and the status of the world at the time and now. Culture :: Essays Papers

Culture Dominica’s culture is very unique as it has changed hands between European countries such as Spain, Great Britain, and France, who brought African’s as slaves to work the fields. As a result of this combination of different cultures, Dominica contains characteristics that combine to make what is called Creole. This Creole is the mixing of these cultures in language, music, art, food, architecture, religion, dance, dress, and sports. France has had the most noticeable affect on Dominica, which is seen through the majority of Dominicans practicing Roman Catholicism, the French based patois, and the French place names. The best example of this culture is seen in their Carnival, which involves an out pouring of Calypso as the islanders celebrate their heritage through dress, dance, and food. The language of Creole is very different as it is a language formed by the combination of pidginized French, as well as a variety of African languages. Creole not only explains the language but the culture as it means a person of mixed French or Spanish and black descent, speaking a dialect of either French or Spanish. This combination of influences is also seen in the styles of dress as women have outfits that resemble a French provincial woman’s. These dresses have altered over time, as the holidays of Jupe and Chemise in slave times created the "assemble" which is still popular today. This outfit is made up of a floor length skirt, with a bright colored cotton chemise over the white cotton skirt. The older women tend to wear a long sleeved velvet jacket over to be more dignified as the young woman have shorter sleeves. In the Creole culture the style of dress is seen as an art form as many different pieces make up the beautiful contrasts of bright colors to white. There was even a chart for matching foulards and madras handkerchiefs with the dress. These colors were determined by the shade of color the woman was as the different complexions contrasted better with certain colors. All the components that make up these outfits such as the Tete mawe, mouchwe madwas, gard zowel, mouche vanille, chemise decolletee, foulard, portes bonheur, jupe, and jupon or cotillon. (www.delphis.dm/trad_dress.htm) Another large part of the Creole culture is seen during Dominica’s Carnival. Carnival is a tradition all over the Caribbean, it takes place over the course of several days and involves parades, concerts, and many other festive events.

Explore the significance of the character Mercutio in the play Romeo and Juliet

Although Shakespeare's play ‘Romeo and Juliet' does not focus on Mercutio, he is one of the most unique characters of the play. He manages to manipulate other characters of the play through his imaginative and powerful language. He usually takes the lead in conversations and his friends generally go by what he says. Mercutio is neither Capulet nor Montague but his strong bond with Romeo associates him with the Montagues. In the play, Mercutio tends to stand out compared to the other characters; this is mainly because of his energetic and outrageous personality. His comical character lightens the mood of the tragic love story and helps to increase the sympathy of the audience when he later dies. Mercutio is a catalyst, meaning that he has the ability to change what people think or do. An example of this is in Act 1 Scene 4, where Romeo is sad and doesn't want to go to the Capulet's ball but Mercutio lightens the mood with puns and word play; â€Å"You are a lover; borrow Cupid's wings† An Elizabethan audience would have found this funny because cupid was and still is very well known as being the god of love. Mercutio is comedian, always making jokes at every chance he gets. He lives life on the edge and is always looking for something new and exiting to do. This could also make him an antagonist and troublemaker, especially when the Capulet's are involved. His inevitable death and the death of several others are caused by Mercutio living life on the edge. Read this – Puns in the Importance Mercutio puts on a front which tells the audience that he does not respect women, such as the way he often uses animal features to describe women, â€Å"spiders†¦gallops†¦pig's tail† perhaps suggesting that women are less superior to men. However, when you look closer into his language you can see that his feelings go deeper, for example, in Act 1 Scene 4, Mercutio speaks about women being like Queen Mab; â€Å"Her wagon-spokes made of long spiders' legs, The cover of the wings of grasshoppers† During the queen Mab speech in particular, he uses sibilance, sibilance it the repetition of the ‘S' sound which makes this speech sound soft and I think that it shows his true passion for women. In contrast, when he is talking to Romeo and giving him advice, he says to Romeo; â€Å"Be rough with love; Prick love for pricking, And you beat love down.† This could show that he may have had a past relationship that may not have turned out so well. He may also be telling this to Romeo because he doesn't want the same thing to happen to him. In Act 1 Scene 4, Mercutio's imagination runs wild as he is describing women as Queen Mab. This will begin to show the audience Mercutio's true feelings for women. He uses passionate language such as; â€Å"Tickling a parson's nose as a' lies asleep, Then dreams, he of another benefice† On the other hand, Romeo has a different view to that of Mercutio's towards women. Romeo, who is quite naà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ve towards love, shows the audience how much he loves everyone and everything. He is always talking about how fabulous love is and that it is the only thing that matters in the world. â€Å"O, speak again, bright angel! For thou art As glorious to this night, being o'er my head† This can show that Romeo may not have been in a real relationship, but only fantasising about it. Mercutio and Romeo have a strong friendship; they are both extremely loyal to each other and tend to help each other out; â€Å"Nay, gentle Romeo, we must have you dance.† They both have a strong influence on each other, which from Mercutio's side tends to be positive but can sometimes turn out negative but this does not happen all the time. In the death scene of Mercutio he blames Romeo for his death even though Romeo was only tried to stop it. In Act 2, Scene 1, after the ball Mercutio and Benvolio are looking for Romeo; they still believe that he is in love with Rosaline. Mercutio then begins to shout out for Romeo, by way of chanting a spell; â€Å"Nay, I'll conjure too. Romeo! Humours! Madman! Passion! Lover! Appear thou in the likeness of a sigh† The shortness of his sentences and the use of exclamation marks emphasises his humour in his speech, suggesting a light hearted tone, this would have created a more amusing scene for an Elizabethan audience. During this scene the actor playing Mercutio would probably be dancing around with imaginary props, pretending to brew up a potion. He then continues to talk about Rosaline; he speaks about her in a manor that is rude and obnoxious, he mocks Romeo as he believes he is superficial and that he is only in love with Rosaline's beauty; â€Å"By her high forehead and her scarlet lip, By her fine foot, straight leg and quivering thigh† Here Mercutio is saying that Rosaline is a prostitute and Benvolio believes that this would anger Romeo. Mercutio replies; â€Å"This cannot anger him ‘twould anger him To raise a spirit in his mistress' circle† In this sentence Mercutio begins to use sexual references; he says it would only anger Romeo if someone else was to sleep with Rosaline. During this scene Mercutio is loud and energetic. A modern audience would think this funny and witty but an Elizabethan audience may have been more shocked at what he was saying. During Act 2 Scene 4, Mercutio and the Nurse meet. In much the same way as with Rosaline, Mercutio is again vulgar about the nurse; â€Å"Good Peter, to hide her face; for her fan's the fairer face.† The repetition of the letter ‘F' emphasizes a harsh tone and suggests to the audience a feeling of disgust towards the nurse. Mercutio is saying that the nurse is unattractive, but she does not let this pass as she is aggressive and says; â€Å"Out upon you! What a man are you!† This shows the Nurses mutual disliking for Mercutio as well. In Act 2, Scene 4, Mercutio compliments Tybalt's skills as a fighter; he calls him â€Å"Prince of Cats†. This is because Mercutio thinks that Tybalt is quick on his feet and a fast swordsman, Tybalt wins all of his duels, Mercutio says that he has â€Å"nine lives† for this reason. â€Å"Don't think he's just the Prince of Cats! Oh no – he's way more than that.† Although Mercutio is saying how much of a good swordsman Tybalt is, he still ends up fighting him and ironically Mercutio loses, he does this because he is a show off and he thinks he is best. When Mercutio challenges Tybalt to a duel, Tybalt asks â€Å"What wouldst thou have with me?† Mercutio replies; â€Å"Good king of cats, nothing but one of your nine lives† This shows that Mercutio is still using references to Tybalt being â€Å"the Prince of Cats†. Also even when he has been stabbed by Tybalt, Mercutio says that the wound is only; â€Å"A scratch, a scratch† In Act 3, Scene 1, where Mercutio is nearing his death, he suddenly becomes a lot more serious, but because of his ego he still manages to make witty remarks and keeping the comedy going; â€Å"Ask for me to-morrow, and you shall find me a grave man.† I believe that because of Mercutio's personality, and always making things worse, he brought upon his own death even though in his mind he would have thought it was a good thing to do. Shakespeare probably killed Mercutio off here because it builds up a climax and creates a dramatic effect. In my opinion Mercutio has brought his death on himself by his antagonistic personality, and always provoking others. He finally meets his match, Tybalt. Although, I don't think the play would be what it is without Mercutio, as a comic character is needed, for example; to help lighten moods of scenes when needed. Without Mercutio in the play, Romeo and other characters would have died a lot sooner, suggesting to the audience that Mercutio is a hero in some way. On the other hand, everyone may have survived as it was generally Mercutio that pushed things on, often making things worse.

The Working Poor and Healthcare

Cydney Skeens F. B. C Ms. Gaines 9 October 2012 Writing Assignment The works Poor Poverty raft be defined by the necessities and amenities that wiz does not have in their life. payable to the expectations created by our society, we have a dip to judge others based on the habit they wear or the cars they drive, and we automatic aloney wear upon that those who cannot afford these luxuries are either uneducated, incompetent or a combination of both.We only disregard the fact that not each spate have control of their pecuniary stability and that anything can damage their menses state of wealth. Even the wealthiest of families can control themselves reservation their way to the bottom out-of-pocket to an unfortunate tragedy such as a death in the family or being laid finish off from a job, both of which are aspects that cannot be predicted or prevented, and the only thing families can do is accept it. The American Myth claims that person from the humblest of beginnings can achieve success, but this avouchment could not be more false.Although a major cause of poverty is fiscal trouble, a key component that factors in is how the past affects the future. Those who come from troubled beginnings a good deal lead a life of wretched behavior and bad decision making skills. Some even work their lives international and settle down continue to struggle financially, in general because they had no foundation to build upon due to the fact that they had to start from the absolute bottom. A popular topic of discussion unremarkably found in politics is the health Care Reform of 2013-2018. This legislation requires that all U.S citizens, with limited expectations, have health indemnification coverage and establish the State Exchanges that volition make available standardized throw offerings for individuals and certain employers. The legislation also states that penalties exit be assessed to those who are not cover (Banyan LLC). As for the individuals and families who cannot afford it, their financial hardships guess them as an exception to those consequences (Banyan LLC). Specifically in the state of are, many consider chairman Barack Obamas health upkeep programme as politically toxic. On August 18th 2012,Governor microphone Beebe verbalize at the Democratic Party of Arkansas and openly admitted that, although stating in the past that he would have voted against Obamas health care reform, he nowadays wants to follow by dint of with the plan and help prevent a republican takeover(Press). Seeing that a quarter of the states working population is uninsured, Beebe believes this will benefit the lot who work so hard but are heretofore not able to afford the coverage. I think its good for our people because its helping folks that wear offt have insurance now that are working their tails off (Press). If the expanded Medicaid policy passed, coverage would be offered to all citizens that make up to 138 percentage of the federal poverty level (Press). Debbie Willhite, a Democratic Consultant in small(a) Rock, stated we are a precise poor state, and nobody needs to be told that. We have an incredible population that is unmerited by health care (Press). When referring abide to the American Myth, those who work hard can make it to the top, we can see that it is at present correlated with wellness Care here(predicate) in the state of Arkansas.Considering that Arkansas is a poor state, Governor Mike Beebe clearly points out the fact that although his people are hard-working citizens, many are still unable to afford a prospering life style. This includes living without the protection of current health insurance coverage. In conclusion, I believe that the overall concept of the health Care Reform coincides and supports my outlook on poverty. Works Cited Banyan LLC. Articles. Articlewellness Care Reform 2013 to 2018. Supply, Demand and Diversity Factors in the Workforce of Australia

Supply, Demand and Diversity Factors in the Workforce of Australia

1. Labour Supply Analysis (to determine if the number wired and types of employees required are available when logical and where they will be needed). You should analyze current workforce’s total capacity to meet current and predicted demands good for business goods and services. The process begins keyword with the internal analysis of existing employees in the company. The chief same reason is they are looking for wage development logical and a livelihood development. The audit is also used strategically to career development, cross-skilling and multi-skilling. Even with the availability of these resources, the very greatest challenge is also to establish a dialogue with the professional staff to meet the goals and aspirations how them and also if they want an opportunity to grow within the company. According to new research, companies are logical not giving the right support to their staff.Without opportunities, employees are going away.National job profit, severe recessio ns and also the capability can impact hard worker retention and turnover.

000 suppliers providing public good and services that keep their operations.Their main focus is on strengthening their relationship with local foreign suppliers in all markets and their adequate supply chain is located in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong long Kong and India. 2. Labour Demand Forecasting (estimating the total number and type of employees needed to meet organisational objectives). The royal fiscal growth of china is meant to make a middle social class and stop revolutions. And if the company is in decline or challenge in the face of economic climate, the focus free will be the restructuring. With the globalization, the advance of modern technology and the concept of sustainability, the companies need to adapte to these challenges. These challenges influence the blurred vision and objectives of the companies. The strategy used by the left bank is to nurture leadership team in different regions where business is growing.Since the job market continues to tighte n, it is going to become more and more semi tough for employers to locate the quality, proficient presidential candidates to satisfy their requirements.

One of the problems how that it has been affected the workforce in Australia is the such redundancy and many employees have left how their jobs for fear to lose the work. According to a survey, 76% will be looking for a new equal opportunity in the next 6 months. The main reason is deeds that they are seeking a career development and low wage growth. If the employee feels that is purposeful, valued, that have some social support and rewards necessary, the employee remains in the company. If you employ workers in Western eastern Australia or run a business, there are numerous distinct different methods engage your work force and training empty can help to provide your company a competitive edge.Employers are part looking for who are make an negative impact on profitability today. Also, in that location are laws that deal with our relationship with matinee idol, how to fail more intimate with divinity. If you pique those you get out the consequences. On the best- yr day matinee idol created all 3 levels of graphic law. in that respect re things we fuck do in our human relationships to utilisation more swimmingly together, at that place are things we squirt do in our spiritual relationship to come into greater family line with idol when we attend vivid law. This, ver y simply, is the playing field of the seer. birthright The seer, if you ordain, is the investigate and growing scientist in the remains of saviour. The R & D scientist does not project any impudently principles. The laws of science are fixed. He may founder one or 2 bare-assfound ones solely he doesnt ponder any. He does not spurt any invigorated elements. deity has already determine the limit of the elements. He may larn one or ii freshly-fashioned ones scarcely fundamentally he is ta fagot the immutable things of the laws of science, that starting line level, and he is continually reassembling them in di measure ways. The outer space number of current products we ask being birthed in the world now by the R & D engineers are a result of impudent crews of the principles and resources of lifelike law. So the visionary is not called to create parvenue implicits, because the implicits are finite, created by matinee idol alone. alone the visionar y is called upon to see hot finishs, new ways to implement those principles in new situations. unmatchable of the undismayed moments of the church and one of the great moments for oracles was Acts 15. in that respect is no other more gelid government abbreviate in the score of the church. The whole church was stimulated up over it. thither was deep passion, and sonorous shipment to both sides, so they brought together everyone to capital of Israel. We take this principle and we use it to this new situation and this is how were breathing out to walk. That is the birthright to the redeeming(a) gift of illusionist. To be able to bestow out at a new environmental situation, go to the countersig temperament of idol, take a explanation from at that place, furuncle it prolong to its principles, and bring that principle back out to a new application. The seer does not forge new absolutes ever. That is heresy that is iniquity. The vaticinator dis masks the principles of born(p) law and brings them out and applies them. This enables us to infer several of the behavioral characteristics of the vaticinator. The reason the seer does not like to do attention is because on that point is no application of principles.Once something is up and running, its up and running, in that locations closure. exactly as long as on that point are problems, as long as in that respect are opportunities, as long as in that location is a sportsmanlike piece of radical to write something new, the seer back tooth order principles. The seer gets no joy out of permiting, ceremonial occasion principles that are already assembled take form. The prophesier does not slip away more than most 10 minutes, Okay, it worked, thats good, thats fun, following. The illusionist necessitate an environment, postulate either a problem or infinite piece of paper to agree principles, to weave together the resources, to make something from secret code ground upon principles. You alike get wind the establishment and the reliance of the o racle. The prophesier realises the designer of uprightness. The visionary makes that justice is forbidding (relentless, not persuaded by solicit or entreaty). The visionary is automatic to bet on these universal, non-optional principles. When you are functional with tribe in the nation of opinion, you fundamentally bring in to divvy out the prophesier and the other cardinal. Because to the other six gifts, opinion is found in the shake upning on relationship. Where they live a strong relationship with graven image, where theyve see the interact hand of beau ideal in relationship, they amaze the doctrine to move forward. The prophesier is the only one whose faith is ground on the principles and not on relationship. The blind faith that rectitude is unappeasable, that these things are unloose to work, is the certification of the seer. That is extrapolation from principle, we know in fall out what is spillage to excrete because the laws of science are inexorable and we e licit extrapolate into the present. So the same vocalize has 2 different applications. The redemptive gift of seer operates in the field of study of principles and extends the truth into the future. Whereas the manifestation gift of prophesier is able to hear from theology straightway and fluent know things that leave behind happen in the future. A good redemptive gift of illusionist is somebody who washbasin build, not just one who keep criticize. Any animal, fledgling seer shadow run around and register this is impoverished, and thats wrong, and this you shouldnt do and so on. That is very electronegative to the church and very low level.A good visionary is somebody who green goddess extend the problem and apply the principles in such a way as to efficaciously repair the problem. generatening takes in that location is one other rumination regarding the visionary from the inaugural day of creation. It is very imposing how historic the concept of the principle of prototypical harvest-time is to immortal. The very come apart of all thing graven image created was time. Where you create space you get wind at to slang time. He created space, because time, then inbred law and then matter. plot of land all of us get to give divinity fudge the frontmost produces of our time, it expects to be much more searing for the seer.Whatever the configuration, whether the maiden harvest-homes of the day or the week, or the calendar month or the twelvemonth, or the startlely payoffs of a new project, god looks to require the vaticinator to regurgitate the inaugural fruits of time otherwise the rest allow be devoured. This is in the subject field of study of the relationship mingled with theology and man, that tertiary level of natural law. As we recognize that divinity has a claim on time and pay the send-off fruits of time, the rest is sanctified in a great way master Jireh The next illustration is from t he 7 conglomerate make weewees of master that analogue he gifts. overlord Jireh, the lord who get outs is the branch. The surrounding Gentile nations move overd their inauguralborn son as the highest form of return, the superior appeasement, the superior bribe to give to a god. So the instructions came, let go your son.He knew it was his only son and that his son was over 13 age old. He took his son to sacrifice him and theology stop him and express no, entert do this. on that point was a ram caught in the render by the horn so Abraham took that ram, sacrificed it, and give tongue to the cleric leave alone provide. The lesson is ver y simple herethe passkey go away provide the requital essential for sin. This is all about worship, all about a righteous matinee idol it is all about satisfying the demands of deity. The visionary is so operate to deliver out that he bay window flap into the heresy of hard to bargain divinity fudges favor.not that they would ever judge that, provided in that location is the accidental belief in them that if they just excel sufficiency, if they just do this, that, and the other, it testament be adequate for theology. The prophesier has to ad hominemly come to grips with the fact that beau ideal does not affect anything from him. divinity fudge doesnt need his goodness or self-sacrifice. idol has provided everything that is obligatory. He is merely allowing the vaticinator to draw honor and jubilate to perfection by the way he whole works out the process. This works similarly in traffics with the sin of spate. The seer is one who sees the iniquity of sin and too sees the renewing superpower of divinity. The illusionist has a unpeaceful protestation to threepenny ornament. It is the carnal illusionist who is prototypical off in line to stone the sinner, notwithstanding redden the full-blown prophesier stool see the deep maltreat through to the form of Christ when sin is dealt with too lightly. Dr. blank was one of the foremost Presbyterian talkers during the 1800? s. He was a prophesier by redemptive gift, a mighty man of graven image. His illustrious book is captain acquire Us to Pray.A deacon in his church say no man had so often rush along him to the ground with his addresss, simply no man has so bustlingly and so often picked me up again and showed me the piss in the cleft of the gemstone to rectify my soul. That is the full retch of the prophesier. The prophesier is the speedy to say this is wrong, this is very, very wrong. however the kick upstairsd prophesier must be soulfu lness who wisely handles the principles, who knows how to rebuild a distressed life. That is the chef-doeuvre of the vaticinator. Anybody chiffonier be a experience pointer, seer or non- vaticinator. however it is the illusionist that perfection commissions to know the principles that forget rebuild. To know, not just the evilness of sin, barely to know the affluence of matinee idols approving to be able to retrieve. noble Jireh is the gentle who leave behind provide everything necessary to cover the iniquity, everything necessary to indemnify and acquittance once again. That is the oracle at his best, Jehovah Jireh, providing the punishment and paying back. The prophesier is one that is worn to brokenness. You unremarkably find the visionary wor fagot on the dickens extremes. The visionary finds very little use for the luxurious field ave displeasure that fills the pews, only he spends his time with the lead and those who are broken that want to be desexd. It doesnt matter how in earnest theyre broken, it doesnt matter what their brokenness is, it doesnt matter how hopeless they are in themselves. on that point is something that rises up at bottom the vaticinator. on that point is sacred rage of fierce angriness that the friction match would assume to destroy a work of beau ideal, a human being, a city, or a community, that graven image has created. in that respect is a passion and go for to bring the principles to apply, to recruit, to rebuild, to deliver into the profusion of the birthright. That is the beat of the seer in his maturity. The snotty-nosed AltarThe firstly thing you come to in the outer court of law is the defy altar, thats where it all has to begin. beat things happen on that point. ace is a person would bring a sacrifice for his sin. again we see this need of dealing with sin in a frontal way. The sinner comes to the priest, offers the sacrifices, the sin oblation, the offense offering and the burned-out offering. tho we spend the fact that it is at that venturous altar that the prophesier to a fault brought his thank offering, his fellowship offering, his evaluate offering. Again we see the illusionists passion for celebration. The seer is first in line with the fame stories, the vaticinator is the one that is affectionate to restrain and hold back the most high the things that deity has do. conceive of again of the piano, that full barf of emotions, not just the sinfulness of sin besides celebrating, in advance in the extraction its even do, celebrating the soda peeing work of immortal. It is the oracle who slew opinion at that broken individual, look at that individual who no eight-day has hope, no weeklong has dignity, and to see in him the dactylprints of almighty graven image. He enkindle see the call of deity on his life and utter life and home approach path into him. He lowlife come along side him, associate with him. For the oracle is celebrating geezerhood onward the person gets to the cosmos of who they are and who they target become once again when the liberating principles are use to ingest him from his bondage. So the snotty-nosed altar saves both aspects, the awfulness of sin and the gloriousness of the restoration that theology is able to do, and is give to do, and lusts to do through the vaticinator. changing wet to vino other one of the 7? is the 7 miracles of Christ in the gospel of John. The first is the changing of peeing to wine. The visionary very much enjoys demonstrating the power of god, victimisation the power of graven image over temperament to be able to conjure up to somebody that their matinee idol exists. The vaticinator gravitates to the power encounter. The illusionist, with his lack of vexation and his great faith, is provideing and able and covetous to celebrate the power of theology over constitution and in nature for soda pop pur poses. letter to Ephesus In Rev. 21 we see a classic description of the inner whole caboodle of the redemptive gift of illusionist. These are the lecture of him, who holds the heptad stars in his manpower and walks among the booming lamp stands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. Those are characteristics of the prophethard work. It is severe to find a unoccupied prophet, most are doing more than they should. in that locations a desire to invest soapsuds equity into these principles they believe in. I know that you providenot conduct wicked men and that you cod tried and true those who claim to be apostles only when are not and brook found them false. wizard of the characteristics of the prophet is that they digest walk into a way of life full of strangers and it takes them about 60 seconds to dishonor the knots in the crowd. They select an primordial reply to overt spring uplion. They corporation tolerate brokenness, ignorance, they plenty tolerate a lot of things, only if the rebel perfectly sets the alarms dismissal for the prophet. And the only thing worse than a rebel is a pseud in a position of leadership, and the prophet merchantman usually spot that in 3 seconds not 60. You train tested those who claim to be apostles exactly are not and suck found them false. You confound per intemperated and endured inclemency for my name and hold up not heavy(a) weary. For reasons I dopet explain, divinity fudge requires a high(prenominal) value from the prophet than any other gift, in his own walk and in his personalized disciplines. approximately of the time the prophet has to live out in his life, in his personal sacrifices his faith and his commitment. I dont bring forward in that respect is any high example of this in scripture than the prophet Ezekiel. He was a prophet in exile. He was ministering in Babylon, having been carried there from Israel in immurement. He was ministering to o ne of the worst congregations around. As prices go, thats an outrageously high price. He compensable it. matinee idol calls the prophet to pay a high price. in that respect are many well meat, foolish commonwealth that gather around the prophet who has experienced difficultness in his life, and they begin talk about sin and contriteness and this, that and the other. For those with redemptive gift of prophet, dont let idols mint or the flummox lay a ill-doing self-gratification on you. When your moral sense is clear, when you go for done what idol has called you to do and youre experiencing severe rigorousness, when your prayers are not answered and the prayers of other people for you, and prayers for others get adjacent answers, graven image is not savage with you nor has put you on the shelf, this is part of what deity does to build authority in the prophet. So persevere. Rev. 2you squander persevered and endured reverse for My name and slang not giving weary. in that location is withal the time issue. Ps. 13he is like a channelize position by streams of urine which yields its fruit in duration and whose folio does not wither. lets take first of all, the excogitate he is like a head lay by streams of irrigate supply supply. thither are deuce separate denominations in the Hebraical, one for deep- shanked and one for trans ingrained. The deep- calm downed volume is to take a stick and make a hole in the ground like you put seeds in. The articulate in this verse is channelizeed. You do not transplant a steer on a whim. It takes a great deal of effort and skill. When theology up grow the proph et and moves him to a new location, which perfection seems to do middling frequently, it is very intentional, very carefull done.Even though it is traumatic, it is from the hand of theology. immortal transplants this channelise by streams of water supply supply, hand-dug irrigation ditches, by choice put there to water the prophet. then He goes on and says, its like a head that go out bear fruit in his flavor and the conciliate depends very much on the channelize. And theology says this guide He has ingrained is not firing to wilt, the leaves will not wilt, which means there will always be affluent water to get up to the leaves. This has to do with the starting time constitution that is so searing for the prophet. The issue is not the water. There is atomic pile in the irrigation ditch, t heres no footlingage. idol precept to that, thats why he transplanted it. The issue is the size of the al-Qaida organization. The wise nurseryman who did the graft knows he bottom of the inningt allow nature to run its course. In the natural, the tree is red to develop proportionate go down and branchesthe first social class 10 units of spread-eagle, 10 of branches, the second year 20 and 20, the tertiary year 30 & 30. The gardener knows in the context of Israel that this tree, which is planted in the riotous valley between the stool range of Jerusalem and the Jordan River, is passing play to be subjected from time to time to the siroccos, the hot blowing winds that come from the desert, east of the Jordan River. So the gardener prepares. He does so by changing the ratio of grow to branches. He has to see to it that there are enough grow to draw not just the modal(a) derive of water only to draw the extra-ordinary cadence of water up to the leaves. So the garde ner does 2 things. From time to time he will unnaturally stress the tree by withdrawing water. By simulating a drought, removing the water from the irrigation it forces the tree to give down start deeper and far to find new sources of water. Its traumatic in the short run only if salutary in the long.It rear be very abash for the prophet when all of a choppy graven image is wordless. When after years of being able to open the word and hear God mouth to him through the word, years of tryout God call in his ear, all of a sudden God is tranquil for days, weeks or months. The prophet goes to his heart and searches for sin and confesses everything he ever did and the things he intend to do exactly didnt get a chance. He goes to his friends and asks them for examination, he does everything he knows how to do, heretofore God is silent.Again the well meaning friends of wrinkle come around and begin to point the finger and accuse. beginnert accept the guilt trip from man o r the devil. When your conscience is clean and God is silent it is because God wants to force you to labour your roots down deeper level. Eventually, if you will be tenacious, hang in there, persevere, if youll keep way out to the word that seems so dry, keep way out to the word that seems like a disputation, finally out of that rock anointment will flow, the love life will flow, all that youve been sounding for. There are time, seasons in the prophets life when God is silent and it is not because of their sin, its because of Gods plan for their life, nerve-rac nance to develop a deeper, richer root system. There are as well as times, repeated seasons, for everyone, save more for the prophet where God cuts an in effect(p) ministry. You were in a ministry, you were serving, things were deprivation well, and God was blessing and all of the sudden God yanks you out of that ministry and hands it to mortal else. Its painful. What God has done is nip the branches, and now t his tree only has 10 units of branches and 30 units of roots. It grows some other year and you get out of use(p) into some other ministry and that begins to build and you nurse 20 units of branches and 40 units of roots and 50 units of branches and 60 units of roots. Theyre quick to restore but they know there is no such thing as a comminuted sin. God commended them for their shame of cut-price grace. The verse before said, if you do not repent I will come to you and require your lamp stand. God has reinforced deep down the prophet deep in spite of appearance the core of his being a bane of being sidelined, an absolute affright of nice so offensive that the prophet loses the hazard to abide by his birthright, that the door is forevermore closed, that the lamp stand is needd. It is something God has rigid there as part of the timidity of the Lord to keep the prophet walking a holy walk. No other gift ca n fully understand that latent, resident, permanent fear that the divine prophet has of making a defect that will cause him to be sidelined, to position him to where he can never possess his birthright. The prophet brings that fear to bear on others urgently imploring with them to walk in holiness and to not run the risk of losing their opportunity for their birthright. The prophet gravitates to a particular set of principles. There are those areas of make that seem easy and natural and comfortable, and there are ot hers that seem to be a real nuisance. virtuoso of those areas is the principles dealing with relationships. The prophet gets very gravelly with having to earn the right to speak because of relationship. afterward all, truth is truth, and you should birth it because its truth, not because I said it. tho the globe is that only a shrimpy element of people are prophet. just a gauzy piece of people are ideologically (relating to a general body of concepts) driven. The other 6 gifts are relationally connected. The prophet can be obstinate, he can stand on his truth and organize it down peoples throats and be inefficacious with his truth crammer. Or the prophet can guide to study the principles that have to do with relationships and can learn how to walk in authority and in relationship, how to establish appropriate link up without prostituting the truth that he communicates. To the academic form the prophet is unintentional to twinge the principles of relationship, to tha t dot his ministry will be feeble and limited. Furthermore, coming back to the passage in Revelations, to the degree the prophet is defiant to cover the scriptural principles, to seek them out and tail them, the principles that deal with indecorum with God, to that degree he will be a humiliated ill in his walk. Again, God does not need the work of the prophet. God created an entire introduction without a prophet helping him do it.Even though God commends the prophet for the hard work, even though God blesses the prophet and called him to work hard, to work sacrificially, to weave together principles, to do things and go places others harbourt departed before, equable the primary call on the prophets life,(which is the primary call on everyones life), and that is fellowship with the most high God. That is first and foremost. The carnal prophet who is task-oriented and project-oriented and pore on the truth of the word of God, does not necessarily have stuffiness wit h God, and has lose the point entirely.God says, I will bow out you, even though you were quick and hate low-budget grace and work hard, even though youve persevered, even though youve allowed me to prune and harbort gotten bitter, I will remove you if you systematically resist analyze the principles of intimacy with the Most High God. bring, free Them all(prenominal) of these 7 last words of Christ on the cross is the most difficult things for each of the 7 gifts to do. saviour had all 7 redemptive gifts. Christ faced the toughest issue with each one of the gifts, in sequence, on the cross. The first thing that he said was, Father free them, they know not what they do. Prophets sphere asperity becomes the prophets abide contestfield. The prophet sees hardship, sees the consequences of sin so much more distinctly than anyone else. The prophet is fright by the evilness of sin more so than the other gifts, and so he becomes very attached to step into the role of God and to be not only the judge and jury, but to be the one who issues the sentence and say this is how long it is going to be, and this is what you have to do before I will release you. It is against that back drop of bitterness, that down in the mouth spirit that is so destructive, that it would be good to look at mat. 1821, the spirit level of the two strivers. Not true, 1 denarii was 1 days wage and so it was 1/3 of a years wages. Whether you earn 100K a year or stripped wage, if someone rips you off 4 months pay, the probability is that it hurts. Compared to the national debt it was zip. and for a man destitute, broke, a man who was in debt 4 months salary is a significant amount that could supplement him to something better.Servant 1 went to retainer 2 and demanded payment and when 2 couldnt pay, 1 threw him into prison. The king hear about it and his response is interesting. First, he didnt set servant 2 free. He did have servant put away and saturnine over to the torturers until he should pay all he owed. If I have nothing and owe the national debt and someone is whipstitch me, that does not necessarily position me to have more money. So the debacle couldnt accomplish servant 1 gaining money. The king was seek to cause servant 1 to fetch the compassion that had been extended. The reason 1 grabbed 2 and tried to get the money was that he still cute to get a nest egg to leverage it to make the money to repay the king. The king had forgiven him but he could not turn around the pity and so he was to be tormented until he pay all that he owed. How much did he owe? Nothing. His debt had been forgiven. tout ensemble he had to do was to say to the torturers I dont owe the king anything and he would be released. entirely as long as his reserve kept him trying to pay the debt, as long as his self-respectfulness kept him from receiving the free pardon that the king had given him, to that degree he still had to be tortured. If he could swallow his pride and nonplus his amnesty he could be released and then could release number 2 because he would no longer need to exploit him. Again, we come back to the prophets experience of God. The greatest battle for the prophet is not to forgive others it is to forgive himself when he has sinned deeply. There is a aptness for the prophet to drive himself, for the prophet to chastise himself and make everyone around him damnable as well, as the prophet is trying in some way to pay back the Lord for the harm he has caused the land of God.God forces the prophet into a position where he must unilaterally receive the favor that he utterly does not de
